Faraday School – Pudding Mill Allotment

06 Jun 2018

Years 5 & 6 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Pudding Mill Allotment in Stratford where Milun and Mia’s family have a plot. The purpose of their morning was to learn about the beehives that are going to house a new colony in the coming months and help prepare the surrounding area for their new home.

The children were eager to design what the bee keeper’s house should look like and got stuck in with their shovels and trowels to dig a small trench where trees have now been planted to help provide shelter around the hives. Workmen from Costain and TMX were on hand to talk to the group about the impact of the nearby Cross Rail development and how they’re supporting the gardeners to minimise disruption in the local area.

The children are all looking forward to their next trip in the summer term to meet the bees and see more growth around the allotment in the warmer weather!
