Bromsgrove Prep – WWI Workshops

08 Dec 2017

‪As part of an upcoming creative writing project, Nikki Thorpe, Bromsgrove School’s Archivist, has been holding WWI workshops with Year 8 pupils.  The prize for the competition, also open to Lower Fourth students, is a visit to the war graves of former Bromsgrove pupils in France.

The archive at Bromsgrove contains many artefacts which include letters, diaries, photographs, poetry, medals and telegrams reflecting the experiences of former pupils and staff during WW1 and showing how important the School was to them.  Many of the boys remained in contact with the School during the war and families sent documents and other items back to the School relating to loved ones killed in action so that they could be part of the archive to remember them.

Bromsgrove is planning a year-long commemoration of the one hundred year anniversary of World War 1, including a screening of the Battle of the Somme and an art installation to honour those lost in the Great War. Accompanying exhibitions and talks to showcase the School Archive material relating to WW1 will also take place.

The School has also been posting details on their website to remember the fallen Old Bromsgrovians:

Remember the Fallen: November

With the 100th anniversary of WWI ending in 2018, we remember the fallen Old Bromsgrovians who were killed during the month of November.
