Bromsgrove Prep – visit from theatre company Spies Like Us

29 Mar 2019

On Thursday 10th January, Bromsgrove School welcomed multi award-winning theatre company Spies Like Us to Cobham Theatre.

The cast of five actors performed their production of Woyzeck to the School after delivering a series of workshops to Drama students in Year 8 and 9. The cast were kind enough to talk to the audience after the performance and answer questions on their devising process and their approaches to developing an idea from the page to the stage.

Spies Like Us formed after working together as members of the Young Pleasance Theatre Company (the Youth theatre attached to the Pleasance in London) which takes groups of young people to Edinburgh every year to perform at the Fringe Festival for three weeks.  Their sell-out production of “Our Man in Havana” will tour the UK and Hong Kong later this year.

Charlie Woollhead, Head of Drama at Bromsgrove Prep School said “It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic the students were to work with an emerging theatre group. The students were extremely lucky to see such slick and detailed physical theatre storytelling. This will hopefully inspire the next generation of theatre makers to follow in their footsteps.”

Tim Norton, Director of Performing Arts at Bromsgrove said “An astonishingly sophisticated, highly skilled and lucidly clear adaptation of Buchner’s very difficult play held the young audience with rapt attention throughout the fifty-five minutes of performance.  It was a privilege to watch every member of the company create such enthusiasm within the Year 8 and 9 workshops, enabling the students to create their own physical theatre with such exuberance in a short space of time.” https://www.spieslikeustheatre.com/
