Bishop’s Stortford College Triumph against MCC by 6 wickets

27 May 2015

It was a truly memorable win and an excellent performance from the College 1st XI on Tuesday 28th April as they secured a victory by a comfortable margin.

A run chase is never easy against the MCC: with the loss of a few early wickets, despite Kyle Henchie scoring 24, the College team found themselves 57 for 3 after 19 overs with a lot of work to do. At that stage Adam Bassingthwaighte joined Harry Bailey at the crease, and they both played beautifully in a match winning partnership of 103. Both played with great maturity and took the game away from the MCC; Adam was dismissed shortly before the end for a well-crafted 41.

Harry hit the winning runs to finish with a superb 105 not out and received the “Spirit of Cricket” cap from Andrew Mackinlay, the MCC captain, for his Player of the Match performance – a wonderful achievement for him. Mr Mackinlay complimented the entire 1st XI for their positive attitude throughout the match, and for the high standards they maintained with both bat and ball.

Coach David Hughes commented, “Well done to all the boys, in what was a special day of cricket for the school and the second time we have won against the MCC in three years, a feat rarely accomplished.”

The winning team, captained by Taylor Weeks, was Harry Bailey, Adam Bassingthwaighte, Tom Baucher, Sean Black, Max Burrows, Kyle Henchie, Tom Langley-Jones, Alex Pilcher, Alex Portas, Will Radbourne, Tom Radley, and Austin Sewell.

Special thanks also go to Head Groundsman, Nigel Witherden, and his team for maintaining the College grounds so beautifully for this winning match.
