ABBEY GATE COLLEGE – SPEECH DAY AND PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY
19 Nov 2012
Chester Racecourse once again played host to Abbey Gate College’s annual Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony. The College celebrates the achievements of its pupils at this annual event and the awards range from those who have demonstrated academic, sporting and musical excellence, to those who are rewarded for their services to the College or for Kindness and Good Intent. Pupils from J5 andJ6 from Aldford School, which is the Infant and Junior Department of the College, also received awards, as did all those pupils who have completed their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards; Form Prizes, Progress Prizes and Aldford School Heads of House were also presented. The Overall Achievement Award this year was awarded jointly to Nick Bradley and Ruth Siddorn. Both pupils achieved straight A* grades in their summer GCSE examinations and are both studying 5 AS levels at the College this year. Headmistress Lynne Horner commented that, “This is a fantastic opportunity to formally celebrate the abundance of talent that exists within the College in a diverse range of areas. The day reflects on past achievements but looks to the future and we are proud of the successes of all our young people and our aim is to help them become confident, responsible and successful members of the community. “
The guest speaker this year was Miss Lucy Pearson, who, as well as being Head of Cheadle Hulme School, is an ex international cricketer. Her motivational speech will live long in the memory of all of the staff, pupils and parents present and she stayed behind to personally congratulate the winners.
As part of the event the College handed over a cheque for £10250 to the ‘Neuro Muscular Centre Charity, based in Winsford’, which has been the focus of much of the fund raising activity throughout the year.
The College would like to congratulate all the pupils who received prizes on the day and thank everyone at the Race Course for helping to organise this excellent event.
