West Buckland School – Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

11 Dec 2014

An intrepid group of West Buckland students undertook their Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition over the October half term. The students were in Snowdonia, North Wales to take on the challenge of the ‘Welsh 3000s’ which involves reaching the peaks of all 15 mountains in Wales over 3000 ft.

This is an extremely tough and demanding challenge, and the students had to battle winds in excess of 50mph, driving rain, and, at times, reduced visibility down to little more than 10 metres! Despite a broken tent on one of the nights meaning six boys had to sleep in a three man tent, some excellent navigation, leadership and team working saw the challenge completed and everyone enjoying the experience and taking a huge amount of satisfaction from it.
