Triple success for St Swithun’s School lacrosse teams

21 Oct 2014

St Swithun’s School, Winchester recently hosted the South West Rally lacrosse tournament and enjoyed significant success during the day, with the school’s 1st and 2nd team winning their respective competitions.

Over 30 teams from schools across Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire took part in this prestigious tournament and the St Swithun’s 1st and 2nd teams won their pools convincingly in the morning with some high scoring wins. This placed both sides in the championship divisions for the afternoon.

The afternoon matches were fast paced, rough and skilful against strong opposition and the 1st team beat Godolphin and Downe House and drew two other matches to clinch the title. Not to be outdone, the 2nd team recorded three wins and one draw to win the second team tournament.

The valiant 3rd team, despite competing in a 2nd team tournament, deservedly gained a place in the championship division in the afternoon and finished 5th overall, a fantastic achievement considering that they were playing other schools’ 2nd teams.

The following day, the U12 team played in the Joker Lacrosse Tournament at Heathfield School, also finishing the day as champions. They started the morning with a tough match against St Mary’s Calne and then had wins against Godstowe, Berkhamsted B and St Helens and St Katherine’s. These results saw the team qualify for the semi-finals where they beat Godolphin 3-0 before taking on Berkhamsted A in the final. St Swithun’s showed great team work and won this match 2-1, finishing the day as overall tournament winners.
