Start of new academic year at Farlington – Message from Louise Higson, Headmistress

09 Sep 2014

Farlington starts the new academic year on a high note following our excellent GCSE and A Level results.

The girls worked very hard to achieve their outstanding results. At GCSE Farlington gained an overall 97% A* to C pass rate compared to the national average of 68.8%, so there is much to celebrate.  56% of all grades were A/A*, again significantly higher than the 21 % national average, with a good proportion of girls achieving straight A/A* grades.

At A Level the girls achieved very good results with 76% gaining A* to C grades and Farlington gained an overall pass rate of 96%. This has enabled all the girls to go to their universities of choice – destinations include St Andrews, Exeter, UCL and Warwick to study courses ranging from Art History to Engineering.

This September we have been joined by some dynamic, new teaching staff. I am particularly excited to welcome on board Mrs Frances Mwale as our new Prep Headmistress. She has a wealth of teaching experience and will bring a fresh vision to the Prep School while continuing the excellent work of Joy Baggs, the former Prep Headmistress.

At Farlington, we pride ourselves on our outstanding pastoral care where every girl is valued and we encourage girls to have the confidence to think for themselves, whilst emphasising the importance of tolerance, teamwork and collective responsibility. Our new day students have been welcomed into the school as have the girls who have joined our vibrant and integrated Boarding House.

The girls have already thrown themselves into the wide range of extra-curricular activities: auditions are underway for the autumn drama productions; rehearsals are taking place for our vast and varied musical activities and the winter sports programme has started in earnest!

If you would like to find out more about what Farlington could offer your daughter, please come to our Open Morning on Saturday, 20th September, at 10.00am. To register, please call our Registrar on 01403 282573.
